Coral Gables might not be the first place people think of when it comes to a bar scene, but it should be. This South Florida enclave has quietly assembled a diverse drinking and dining landscape, where between the Mediterranean architecture and palm-lined avenues, is everything from a polished cocktail lounge to a casual spot with craft beers and small plates. These bars prove you don’t need to be in Miami proper for an exciting and memorable night out.
John Martin’s Irish Pub & Restaurant
$$ | (305) 209-0609 | WEBSITE

John Martin’s feels more Dublin than pub-in-Coral-Gables, with its dark wood paneling, cozy booths, and warm lighting. Automatically start with a perfectly poured Guinness and house-made chips while scanning the menu. Make it easy and get the crispy wings with blue cheese dressing, the golden-brown fish and chips, and the juicy hamburger with all the fixings, which is satisfying without being overwhelming.
If the noise level allows, sit in the renovated dining room–it’s great for a casual lunch with friends and the right setting for a lively dinner with family.
Francesco
$$$ | (305) 797-4039 | WEBSITE

For exceptional Latin-inspired cuisine in a vibrant yet sophisticated setting that invites dressing up a bit, Francesco is where you want to be. The fresh Salmon Tiradito with its bright citrus notes, or the tender Pulpo a la Parilla with smoky char should start things off. Follow them up with the New York strip gnocchi with its rich, savory sauce that’s deeply satisfying without feeling heavy.
Be sure everyone saves some room for at least a couple of expertly crafted cocktails, preferably a floral Lychee Martini and a complex Clear Negroni.
Copper 29 Bar
$$ | (786) 830-9640 | WEBSITE

The bar service at this Coral Gables spot is a highlight, but we’ve got you—get the ceviche and a couple of those yummy drinks to experience the full range of this central restaurant. For something more substantial, go for the well-prepared food which uses basic ingredients but delivers on flavor.
This is a fun spot for a night out with dancing, but with tables outside and a dimly lit interior, it’s fit for those who prefer a quieter experience away from the loud music that can feel like a concert.
Yard House
$$ | (305) 447-9273 | WEBSITE

Make this your spot to guarantee a great night out with friends or family–there’s a cool atmosphere, an impressive beer selection, and shareable dishes that practically ensure everyone leaves happy. Start with the popular chicken nachos during happy hour while you catch up over discounted drinks. Show off some good taste and get the new Brussels sprouts dish that even converts the skeptics or one of their diverse entrees as your main.
Share another round of beers for dessert (or, if you’re heading home, grab a growler to-go and enjoy it while planning your next visit).
The Biltmore Bar
$$$$ | (877) 624-2830 | WEBSITE

This refined and upscale spot feels like a timeless escape, with its classy, cozy ambiance, warm lighting that glows against dark wood paneling, and plush velvet barstools. The live music drifts through the space, and the drink menu delivers on all the sophisticated options you hope for: a huge selection of spirits, classic cocktails, and the popular Heartbreaker martini.
It’s the kind of place you’ll want to meet friends, unwind with straightforward bar talk, and find an excuse to stay for another round.
Morton’s The Steakhouse
$$$$ | (305) 442-1662 | WEBSITE

The sophisticated, opulent atmosphere makes a meal here feel like you’re celebrating a special occasion from the moment you walk in. The menu is a showcase of classic steakhouse excellence. Think perfectly cooked filets with rich flavor, creamy corn that’s become legendary among regulars, and bread so good you’ll want to bring extra home to share.
The wine list is impressively curated with praised pricing–especially notable during Miami Spice when the value shines through appetizers, steaks, sides, and desserts. We like to make an evening of it with the multi-course experience. Reservations are recommended for peak times, but the friendly managers and attentive servers like Jose ensure every guest feels special whether you’ve planned ahead or decided spontaneously.
The Bar
$$ | (305) 442-2730 | WEBSITE

This spot delivers a substantial list of wings. The Asian and lemon pepper flavors stand above the rest—channel game day with the award-winning wings, perfectly crispy with just the right amount of heat, or go for something with a bit more zest like the lemon pepper option. For a drink, the reasonably priced beers, cold and refreshing, should take priority.
You could, of course, take your drink to go, but we like to stick around and admire the cozy, vibrant atmosphere and trick ourselves into believing we’re at a college pregame party.
Doc B’s Restaurant
$$ | (786) 864-1220 | WEBSITE

When you’re craving a cozy meal in Coral Gables, head to this welcoming spot. The dining room with its homey feel and warm lighting makes everyone feel like part of the family, and the food does not miss. The knuckle sandwich here is ridiculously good—fresh and flavorful, with an impeccable lobster roll—tender and buttery, with a generous dose of seasoning.
Add on an order of the shrimp appetizer, or go with the Mediterranean salad for greens with just enough crunch, tossed in a bright, zesty dressing. Always make sure to try their mocktails to find the perfect pairing to really make whatever you’re eating sing. (The brunch offerings are our favorite.)
Zitz Sum
$$$$ | (786) 409-6920 | WEBSITE

Zitz Sum brings Japanese and Chinese fusion to Coral Gables with meticulously crafted tapas and a menu of elevated small plates. The space very much reflects the lounge vibes—dark and serene, with elegant design touches and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The tender, flavorful steak tartare is a flawless vehicle for delicate seasoning and the Hokkaido scallop crudo is bright and balanced, thanks to careful preparation and quality ingredients.
Pair whatever you get with a knowledgeable server’s suggestion or simply enjoy the chill, mellow environment. The bing bread is especially recommended.
Miami’s Best Pizza
$ | (305) 666-5931 | WEBSITE

The menu at this popular Coral Gables spot covers familiar ground—pizza, pasta, orange cake—but the execution is so spot on, it’ll reignite your affection for the classics. The garlic pizza cut in squares is baked until crispy and pairs nicely with the punchy tomato sauce it comes with, and the fresh pasta similarly is cooked like it was tailor-made for the lighter dough riding alongside. On busy days, take advantage of the direct delivery service.
Galiano Cigar Room
$$ | (305) 407-7111 | WEBSITE

The cigar selection at this local gem reads like a greatest hits list of top-tier smokes. The Maduro wrapper on their signature stick falls apart with barely a poke, the Connecticut shade strikes just the right balance between smooth draw and rich flavor, and you’ll want at least a couple of their milder options for pairing. The space is equally comforting, like the cozy lounge of a friend’s house, with its classy leather seating and warm lighting.
This place is the answer to one of those days when only a proper cigar and a solid drink in a welcoming environment can fix you.
