Maybe you’re tired of the same old takeout menus cluttering your counter. Or perhaps you’re craving authentic ramen but dread the thought of another disappointing broth. Whatever brought you here, you’re ready for real Japanese cuisine in Midlothian. Introducing our 2026 guide to the 16 best Japanese restaurants—where every dish delivers excellence, whether you’re dining in or bringing the experience home.
Made In Asia
$$ | (804) 739-8160 | WEBSITE

If you remember that scene from Home Alone 2 where Kevin orders room service, you’ll appreciate why having Made In Asia delivered is a great idea. Because nothing says ‘I do what I want’ like getting an entire authentic Thai feast delivered to your house. This is also a good opportunity to wear pajamas while enjoying restaurant-quality sushi at your kitchen counter.
Teriyaki Madness
$ | (804) 491-4396 | WEBSITE

If you’ve ever opened up a takeout container to find that everything is soggy and/or lukewarm, you know that freshness really matters. And that’s especially true when it comes to teriyaki. Teriyaki Madness might not have the absolute best teriyaki in Midlothian, but the bowls here are perfectly satisfying, and this place is really, really good at made-to-order meals. Everything is carefully prepared fresh, so you get those wonderful charred bits of chicken when it arrives.
Sushi-O
$$ | (804) 897-9878 | WEBSITE

Sushi-O has our favorite Japanese spot in Midlothian, even though some sushi purists will (wrongly) complain that it’s a bit pricey for a premium. But you know where you don’t have to listen to that kind of negativity? One of their private booths. Ordering is simple: Get the Picasso Roll, and enjoy the flavor masterpiece in peace. Unless you’re dining with a purist – then you’re on your own.
SNOWFOX Sushi

Midlothian has several Japanese spots, all of which are still really popular. And while it’s easy to dismiss something everyone else enjoys, that doesn’t change the fact that this place is actually very good. SNOWFOX Sushi, which serves fresh rolls and hibachi, is the one to visit for a casual meal. Order the California roll, the Joker Roll, and some noodles.
The best part is that you don’t have to deal with any pretension to eat it—just simple, clean surroundings and kind service from the family running it.
Fuji Sushi
$ | (804) 794-8700 | WEBSITE

Fuji Sushi is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Midlothian, so unsurprisingly, getting a table for a weekend evening can be tricky. Fortunately, they also do take-out. Which means that it’s technically possible to enjoy things like the delicious fresh sushi rolls at a time other than Friday at 7pm. Unless, of course, you want to eat while you watch the limited seating fill up.
Yamato Japanese Steakhouse
$$$ | (804) 639-9601 | WEBSITE

Sometimes you just want to watch your dinner get cooked right in front of you with some entertaining flair, without breaking the bank. When that’s the case, head to Yamato Japanese Steakhouse. Order the hibachi with teriyaki or the sushi roll selection, both of which pair perfectly with the lively flames and chef’s tricks that keep everyone at the table smiling.
More Than Sushi
$ | (804) 269-0108 | WEBSITE

Sure, you could attempt to assemble sushi at home. But to replicate the experience at More Than Sushi would require sourcing multiple specialty ingredients—the kind that come with premium price tags and inconsistent quality. You’re much better off just ordering in.
Get the Joker Roll (which features fresh, generous cuts of fish) or the steak hibachi (perfectly cooked with tender meat and fresh veggies), and feel free to plate everything beautifully and take all the credit if you’re hosting friends.
Arilang Sushi
$$ | (804) 562-5991 | WEBSITE

Arilang Sushi does everything a top-tier sushi spot should, including consistently fresh fish. And luckily, your craving for quality nigiri also goes really well with their Japanese beers. Order the Jessica L Special Roll, plus the short pump roll with octopus, tuna, and salmon to round it out. Then imagine you’ve discovered a hidden gem and pretend that the friendly staff are actually welcoming you to their favorite local haunt.
Sushi King
$$ | (804) 325-3800 | WEBSITE

You might only know Sushi King as one of the many Japanese spots currently operating in Midlothian. But this place also makes fantastic hibachi. It’s delicious, it goes perfectly with Sushi King’s cocktails, and they have just the right proportion of fresh ingredients to grill. Get the sushi platter with the kid-friendly options, plus a beer. Bonus points if you also get the hibachi choices, which magically stay filling during the meal.
Hibachi Express
$ | (804) 323-7811 | WEBSITE

Hibachi Express is a straightforward Japanese spot with awesome food and great customer service, and while we love going there for a meal, trying to park can be a little like The Hunger Games (since the lot is pretty small). But our favorite dishes, like the perfectly cooked steak, hold up really well to takeout, and the juicy chicken is consistently delicious. The only drawback to ordering in is that the fresh seafood doesn’t really travel well.
But you do have to find a reason to leave your house eventually.
Osaka Sushi & Steak
$$ | (804) 288-8801 | WEBSITE

Sushi can make you think of special occasions and celebrations, which is why it’s an especially good choice for a regular weeknight dinner. When you visit Osaka Sushi & Steak, get the fillet or the Blue Oyster Cult Roll, and don’t skip the appetizers – like the Mt. Fuji Shrimp, the Geisha roll, and the Sweet Potato roll. All of which can help you pretend you’re having a high-end meal in a bustling Tokyo alley, with 100% less travel and language barriers.
Hiro Sushi
$$ | (804) 323-8108 | WEBSITE

If you’re even remotely considering sushi for lunch, don’t hesitate – head straight to Hiro Sushi. Not only is everything on their menu consistently fresh and delicious, but their lunch specials are incredibly affordable, ranging from $8 to $22 per roll. There’s no wrong choice here, but you can’t go wrong starting with their miso soup, ginger salad, and the Volcano Roll. Just remember that while the atmosphere is cozy and peaceful, the appearance is unassuming – but that’s part of its charm.
Sushi Hibachi Bistro
$$ | (804) 658-5590 | WEBSITE

If you’re looking to eat your feelings, Sushi Hibachi Bistro can help. In fact, you can rate the difficulty of your day based on how many specialty rolls you order. Whatever else is currently on your mind, you’ll appreciate that they pack everything carefully, and always make sure you have enough sauces to go with all the sushi you’ve ordered.
Get the dragonfly roll, shrimp tempura, and both the seaweed salad and soup – which they’ll thoughtfully put in separate containers, so you don’t have flavors leaking into everything.
Hibachi & Sushi Grill
$ | (804) 658-5492 | WEBSITE

This is the Chesterfield location of the popular Hibachi & Sushi Grill, and the food here is also (obviously) Japanese. But this place has a varied menu, with classic dishes like California rolls, shrimp tempura, and miso soup. Also, we’re still trying to figure out how they manage to deliver consistently satisfying hibachi chicken – which you should definitely order, and probably eat first.
Sushi Masa Henrico
$$ | (804) 270-7799 | WEBSITE

Sushi Masa Henrico specializes in all-you-can-eat sushi and sashimi, and you should make sure to order plenty of both. Also add the Double Crunchy Roll, which (unsurprisingly) benefits from the fresh, large pieces of fish as well, and feel free to get a dinner reservation, too – although lunch’s effect on the experience is still unknown.
Ninja Hibachi
$ | (804) 968-7800 | WEBSITE

Hibachi is the quintessential takeout food, and that’s why there are multiple options on this list. Ninja Hibachi serves Japanese-style hibachi, which you should be eating at home where you can fully appreciate the generous portions. While the Midlothian restaurant itself offers a pleasant dine-in experience with its open kitchen, you can get everything for takeout.
The hibachi salmon and the teriyaki chicken are the best ones – just be sure to ask for extra packets of ginger sauce and that freshly made Thai iced tea. Trust us on that.
