You know the drill. You’re craving authentic carnitas and a killer margarita, but end up paying resort-town prices for mediocre guac and a side of regret. The search for real Mexican flavors in Miami Beach can feel like navigating a tourist trap minefield. We’ve done the digging—and tasting—so you can skip the disappointment and dive straight into the good stuff.
Fresh Mexican Taco Bar
$ | (305) 535-7475 | WEBSITE

Fresh Mexican Taco Bar is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Miami Beach, and one of our favorite places to grab lunch before heading back to the sand. It’s compact and bustling, busy with beachgoers grabbing Jamaica and shrimp tacos to go, couples splitting huge hard shell tacos, and hungry souls fighting for their lives over perfectly crunchy red cabbage toppings.
There’s no wrong way to order here—get the standout fish or steak tacos, the amazing chicken quesadillas, or skip the just-okay nachos. The menu is focused, and the service is so efficient you’ll have your food in minutes. Even when they (very politely) remind you that seating is limited to just 12-14 people and it’s best to take your lunch back to the beach.
Matilda’s Kitchen – Cuban restaurant in Miami Beach
$$ | (786) 424-5499 | WEBSITE

OK, this place is on the cozier side and only has a couple of tables that work for bigger parties, but we’re including it anyway. The more chances to tell everyone about the food at this Cuban restaurant in Miami Beach, the better. Their ropa vieja comes in generous portions and is great for sharing, but the other dishes here—the lechón asado, the picadillo, the arroz con pollo—deserve to be on the table, too.
You’ll pass a few tourist spots on the drive over here (like Ocean Drive and Lincoln Road), so maybe you can shake off some of your group on the way over here.
Krispy Tacos
$ | WEBSITE

With large portions that can easily satisfy a hungry group, fresh seafood, and a menu full of thoughtful dishes (a $42 “small” order of shrimp tempura can easily feed three), Krispy Tacos is a standout when it comes to value dining. The beef and broccoli or California rolls are excellent (as the reviews suggest, Krispy Tacos does indeed have “exceptional food”), along with options like deep-fried dumplings or the crème brûlée dessert.
Plus, the friendly and efficient staff provides great recommendations—which comes in handy if you’re looking for that perfect special occasion meal.
Serena
$$$ | (305) 306-0776 | WEBSITE

Serena is a stylish Mexican restaurant in the heart of Miami Beach where most cocktails and beers run $14-18. Sip one of their creative cocktails (my go-to is the spicy margarita with chili-infused tequila and fresh lime) or enjoy an entree like the tacos or enchiladas. The portions are so modest that even if you order multiple dishes for the table, you’ll likely leave wanting just a bit more. Just be prepared to stop for a snack on your way home.
Lolo’s Surf Cantina
$$ | (786) 276-0535 | WEBSITE

You were too tired to walk another block after the beach. Make up for it by stopping at Lolo’s Surf Cantina. The amazing charm, refreshing $14 Baja water drinks, and delicious Mexican food make this feel like a mini-beachside fiesta right next to South Beach. And since it’s affordable, you can use the extra cash to finally try that corn cake.
Lime Fresh Mexican Grill
$ | (786) 420-5463 | WEBSITE

This is a lively Mexican spot in Miami Beach serving fantastic tacos and burritos—you’ll find a menu full of flautas, homemade salsas you can choose as many as you like, and frozen margaritas. There’s a happy hour where tacos are just $2 and drinks are a great deal. It’s easy to keep adding on churros and more margaritas, which is definitely what you’ll end up doing.
The taco stand
$ | (786) 542-9384 | WEBSITE

If you’re looking for fantastic Mexican food without breaking the bank, The Taco Stand is the spot. It’s a casual taco joint in Miami Beach, and all the food here is great—including their carne asada burrito and al pastor taco. And the fact that they offer big portions and a fresh toppings bar makes The Taco Stand an excellent choice for satisfying meals. Come with your appetite, load up on churros afterward, and prepare for some serious flavor.
Pikio Taco & Pool Bar
$$ | (786) 496-5739 | WEBSITE

The pool bar at Pikio Taco & Pool Bar is one of the best in Miami Beach. It’s vibrant, with plenty of space around the lounge chairs, and also feels like its own little oasis—so you can truly relax and unwind. As you might expect from the name, you’re here for tacos and Mexican fare, and they’re both excellent. The chicken burrito is phenomenal, and the Tuna Tostadas are the best on the menu. Plus, the bar serves margaritas that are worth the splurge.
So all in all, this is one of our go-to spots for a group hang, especially when the sun is shining. The service is excellent, with attentive and kind waitstaff like Rodrigo, Tatiana, Candela, and Juan ensuring nothing is missing. It’s a great spot to enjoy a meal with friends or family, and parking is available across the street.
Coyote Taqueria
$$ | (786) 278-9044 | WEBSITE

The last time your friend group all saw each other was at a birthday dinner where you bonded over how much you had to spend on “authentic Mexican” outfits that fit the theme. Make up for that money pit of a weekend at Coyote Taqueria. It’s a taqueria-focused spot that feels like a lively fiesta, decorated with vibrant colors and full of communal tables that are perfect for groups.
Split the freshly made guacamole, delicious fajitas, or phenomenal birria tacos—consider adding mango mojitos to that last order, but don’t make Chris pay for them since they’re a lightweight. And Karla shouldn’t pay for them either, since she arrived late and never signed off on the mango order. Actually, on second thought, skip the mango. It’s too complicated.
Bodega Taqueria y Tequila
$$ | (305) 704-2145 | WEBSITE

Planning a trip to Miami Beach might be exciting and memorable, but it’s not always easy to find authentic Mexican flavors amid all the tourist spots. So we recommend heading to Bodega Taqueria y Tequila instead. Here you can get shrimp, carne asada, birria, or seafood tacos, and they’re all reasonably priced by the plate. Whichever one(s) you select will be flavorful and satisfying, and your meal will come with some fantastic drinks and great music.
Unlike the nightclub at the back, the vibrant space here is perfect for casual dining and gatherings.
Naked Taco
$$ | (305) 534-8455 | WEBSITE

We’re big fans of this Mexican spot in Miami Beach. For one thing, this restaurant has a cool vibe, which is nice. And the menu has popular items like birria tacos and shrimp tacos, which are not only delicious, but can help avoid potential indecision about what to order (the birria empanadas, by the way). They have a robust drink selection, where you can enjoy cocktails like the watermelon margarita and dragonfruit Paloma.
Plus, you can order appetizers like the fried goat cheese, and they’re all tasty. Come here with a group or solo, and plan to try everything.
Esquina Mexicana | Mexican restaurant in Miami Beach
$$ | (786) 619-6649 | WEBSITE

Esquina Mexicana’s dining space feels like a Miami Beach local’s favorite hangout, with colorful papel picado decorations and a steady stream of Latin pop and mariachi tunes. But the most impressive thing about this Mexican restaurant in Miami Beach is its $18 lunch special, with standouts like tender chicken fajitas with sizzling peppers or juicy steak tacos with fresh cilantro.
Even if you upgrade to the Birra tacos for $4 extra or get creamy guacamole a la carte, you won’t feel compelled to check your wallet. It’s common to see regulars chatting with the friendly staff, you can probably snag a table even if your group decides to spontaneously pop in without calling ahead.
Dulce Vida Mexican Restaurant
$ | (305) 397-8765 | WEBSITE

Mexican food is always great for quick meals, but is often heavy. But Dulce Vida in South Beach is actually pretty light and fresh, and has both brisket and Birria tacos, and makes for a fantastic takeout experience. The different fillings add levels of nuance to the dishes’ flavor. Plus this place is welcoming. It’s full of locals looking for a reliable meal, and visitors grabbing food before heading to the beach nearby.
Matilda’s Taco Bar
$$ | (786) 741-8666 | WEBSITE

You need a solid plan to snag a spot here—or at least some flexibility. In fact, flexibility is actually the best plan. This Miami Beach taco spot doesn’t take reservations, and gets really packed during peak hours, so expect a line. Luckily, there’s a nice street seating area to keep your group comfortable, and once you secure a table, the quick-service counter moves efficiently.
Then you have all the time in the world to enjoy those amazing tacos and delicious margaritas while watching the other groups wait for you to finally finish.
Mama’s Tacos Latin Restaurant Miami Beach
$$ | (786) 413-6037 | WEBSITE

We’re huge fans of Mama’s Tacos, a Mexican spot in Miami Beach. The menu is full of delicious dishes, like the steak tacos (a wonderful combination of tender meat and fresh toppings) and the pastor tacos with perfectly seasoned pork and pineapple in a spicy adobo sauce. The way to do it is to go with a few other people and order one of their molcajete options, which is a communal dining situation that lets you try a bunch of different meats and salsas.
It’s all served with a big basket of fantastic tortillas, which are made fresh daily.
Taco Taco
$$ | (305) 674-1160 | WEBSITE

Like a secret handshake, asking for “the mango kick” at this Mexican spot in South Beach will unlock one of the best casual meals in Miami. Taco Taco is a lively restaurant with a special habanero mango wing that’s actually a standout item. It’s served crispy with a sweet-spicy glaze that pairs perfectly with a cold drink—all of which costs around $18 and easily feeds two as a starter.
This cozy place is always buzzing, but it’s usually easy to grab a street-side table for people-watching, or just walk in after a late flight.
Oh Mexico Taco Shop Ocean Drive
$$ | (786) 883-0709 | WEBSITE

If you’re not careful, a meal at Oh Mexico Taco Shop can get pricey. But this lively Mexican spot on Ocean Drive has generous portions, so you don’t need to order multiple appetizers, and most of the tacos and plates are substantial enough to share among friends. You can expect a vibrant patio perfect for people-watching, upbeat music, and Mexican classics like Al pastor tacos and ceviche.
It might not serve the most innovative Mexican food in Miami Beach, but everything on the menu is tasty and satisfying. It’s always bustling, so be prepared for the lively atmosphere and the 20% gratuity added to all bills.
Kantina Restaurant
$$ | (305) 534-7100 | WEBSITE

Kantina has some of the best Mexican food in Miami Beach, and the vibrant location is basically a fiesta spot, so it’s ideal for getting together over frozen margaritas and soaking up whatever lively energy is filling the air this evening. A generous plate of crispy calamari is big enough to share with a group of four (including your friend who never orders, but always has a bite).
Holy Guacamole Miami
$ | (305) 535-7475 | WEBSITE

Not all who seek Mexican food in South Beach will find equal satisfaction—some restaurants charge resort prices for tiny portions while others serve bland imitations. The affordable tacos at Holy Guacamole Miami create that authentic street food feeling and will put everyone on the same delicious page. This spot focuses on generous portions and has limited seating that still works for quick meals or small groups.
You’ll find a variety of well-seasoned options like pork, chicken, and fish tacos, plus standout flautas and a tasty veggie burrito. The service doesn’t include fancy frills, but you get free side supplements. And everyone should probably order their own because sharing those last bites of birria or nachos might test even the closest friendships.
