In Québec City, restaurant debates aren’t just about where to dine—they’re passionate discussions about heritage, terroir, and culinary identity. When you find yourself arguing whether classic French bistros or innovative Québécois cuisine deserves your evening, let this 2026 guide settle the debate. From centuries-old stone-walled establishments to modern spots redefining poutine, here are the places that truly capture this city’s soul.
Kinzo Québec (Vanier)

This lively, fast-paced Vanier restaurant is like bingo night, but instead of marking numbers on a card, you’re playing for prizes while enjoying affordable meals. You can purchase cards ranging from $2 to $4 and have the chance to win anywhere from $70 to $1,500, depending on how many players are online. Our favorite approach here is the $3 card, which offers a good balance of value and potential reward, while nibbling on the simple, satisfying snacks.
Though this might be the most relaxed gaming atmosphere we’ve experienced, it’s still engaging, and the peaceful setting is the perfect backdrop for the cheerful competition.
Restaurant Tomas Tam Inc
$$ | (418) 871-8182 | WEBSITE

Most Chinese restaurants in Québec City usually only have one or two standout dishes on the menu. And while it does make ordering simpler for indecisive diners, if there’s one thing we learned from Saturday evenings, it’s that it’s nice to have numerous options. Every single plate at Restaurant Tomas Tam Inc offers fresh and affordable choices, with classics like fried rice and pepper shrimp that can be enjoyed alongside their popular buffet.
Their service is attentive yet good-humored, and goes perfectly with their pleasant atmosphere. There’s plenty of family seating in the warmly lit, comfortable dining space, so it’s a good spot to gather with loved ones—just make sure to also try some crispy spring rolls as an appetizer, though be aware that some dishes like the Chinese noodles might lack the meat and flavor you’d hope for.
Sukiyaki
$ | (418) 648-8546 | WEBSITE

Sukiyaki is the only spot in the city where you’ll find such consistently excellent service with quick attendance. This gentle owner-run place in Québec City is full of loyal customers who’ve made it their go-to for a delicious meal, and newcomers who’ve heard about the savory wonton soup with ginger-infused broth.
Their standard dishes are good, but Sukiyaki also has highlights worth trying, like the crispy, delicious rolls—though traditionalists might write a lengthy explanation about proper preparation techniques. Aside from regular seating, they have a comfortable area where you can enjoy your meal in a relaxed atmosphere. Just be careful, the more you visit the more likely you’ll find yourself becoming one of those regulars who can’t stay away.
Pizza Ramos
$ | (418) 977-8200 | WEBSITE

Pizza Ramos is serving some of the best halal food in the city—and they’re also some of the most welcoming. This clean, small spot specializes in tuna pizza, an uncommon choice with crispy dough and fresh ingredients. It has a delicious lightness without feeling too plain, and pairs perfectly with their friendly, quick service. Our go-to order is the Ramos Poutine, which gets added richness and heartiness from the halal beef.
Like a hidden gem, it’s all about simplicity—loaded with savory flavors, quality ingredients, and a fun, relaxing atmosphere. It’s a robust, satisfying meal, but it’s all balanced perfectly with freshness from the vegetarian options and kid-friendly amenities.
Bar Chez Stanley
$$ | (418) 877-3460 | WEBSITE

You won’t find a quiet, intimate dining room at this Québec City spot—Bar Chez Stanley keeps things lively. And the space is expansive, with both a beautiful bar and a large terrace. Stanley’s sticks to the tavern basics and that’s what makes each visit fun. Their friendly-but-not-too-intrusive staff (or a DJ on Thursday evenings) is welcoming, complemented by just a handful of sports screens. The atmosphere has a similar straightforwardness—a cozy tavern-like ambiance and multiple seating areas.
But the karaoke and the eponymous Stanley keep the place from feeling dull, often encouraging guests to join in. Plus, since it’s especially lively on Thursday nights, it’s great for an impromptu night out.
Taverne Du Kent Inc
$$ | (418) 914-1335 | WEBSITE

The outdoor area at Taverne Du Kent Inc might be the coolest we’ve found in Québec City—it’s pleasant and inviting, and has the charm of a hidden neighborhood gem. And like that spot, a visit to this friendly tavern is equally refreshing. We recommend trying the popcorn chicken which balances the casual atmosphere with a combination of crunch, savoriness from the seasoning, along with ice-cold beer.
If heavy snacks are not your style, they also have great service from waitresses like Jocelyne and Joceline. This is a much warmer experience with reasonable prices, welcoming staff, and commendable attention for some added comfort.
Resto Deux Deux Sept
$ | (581) 742-2272 | WEBSITE

Like a reliable neighborhood friend, Resto Deux Deux Sept is always there when you need it. This pleasant dining spot offers a lunch menu full of beautiful dishes where the fruits are always fresh. Compared to other casual spots, their snack fries and poutine stand out as particularly popular choices. The restaurant provides a variety of options, including a great cheeseburger and a good meatloaf. While some dishes may arrive slightly overcooked, the service is fast and friendly.
Resto Deux Deux Sept is particularly great in the afternoon when its combination of inviting atmosphere, $12-18 lunch plates, and warm lighting helps you forget you’re just grabbing a quick bite in the neighborhood.
Jugo Juice
$ | (418) 953-1975 | WEBSITE

Though Jugo Juice at Place Laurier has a very satisfying peanut/chocolate butter smoothie, some of the best options at this convenient spot are the ones that eschew (thanks nutrition class) conventional sweeteners. Jugo Juice successfully incorporates natural alternatives into their drinks—from the erythritol-sweetened selections which are perfect for diabetics, to the monk fruit blends which appeal to keto followers.
When combined with the protein-rich additions to their sugar-free menu, it’s worth stopping by for a quick refreshment before this place gets crowded with health-conscious customers.
Restaurant Normandin Hamel
$$ | (418) 877-1192 | WEBSITE

It takes Restaurant Normandin Hamel about 15 minutes to fry up their delicious potatoes, a feat that seems particularly impressive considering we can’t even make it through a one-minute-long Instagram reel. But their golden, crispy fries are some of the city’s best, especially when accompanied by their diverse children’s menu, friendly smiling staff, and ample parking.
Paired with the lively, high-traffic dining room, finishing a meal here gives the same feeling as cheering with a young hockey team after a big win. They also provide raw vegetables for kids, so everyone is free to enjoy a good breakfast or dinner to the soundtrack of a bustling, energetic atmosphere.
Señor Sombrero
$$ | (418) 666-5555 | WEBSITE

Señor Sombrero evolved from a hidden treasure into a full-fledged, must-visit destination. Reservations are recommended on weekends, and a lively crowd gathers outside 20 minutes before they open. But once you’ve secured your table and had your first bite of their Mexican food, it’s clear why. Each of their many vegetarian and gluten-free options is distinct, with only a handful of fresh ingredients, giving every flavor room to shine.
But the must-order is their authentic Mexican experience, complete with live music on Friday nights. Without even factoring in the warm and festive ambiance, the kind owner’s involvement, and the excellent value for money, we’d happily wait just for the super good, delicious dishes.
Brulerie Vanier
$ | WEBSITE

Brulerie Vanier in Québec City is a cozy cafe where the main draw is their excellent desserts and varied coffee options. Their take on tiramisu (whose origins are rooted in the Veneto region of Italy) is a creamy and balanced dessert layered with espresso-soaked ladyfingers. It’s also complemented by their lime iced green tea that’s refreshing and subtly sweet. Their warmly lit dining room is small and intimate, with mainly wooden tables and comfortable chairs.
It’s ideal for a peaceful afternoon with a book in January—because Québec City winter is basically just an extension of cozy season.
Bar-Spectacle le Quartier de Lune 2.0
$$ | (418) 523-4011 | WEBSITE

With its cheap beer and Canadian whiskey selection, Bar-Spectacle le Quartier de Lune 2.0 feels less like a typical bar and more like an energetic party venue where you don’t have to ask yourself “Why is the music so quiet?” And unlike other spots where you might feel pressured to stay in one area, this place has two floors with distinct vibes, making it a fun place to explore.
Their show lineup is plentiful, but experiences like the live bands on the second floor, or the karaoke area that adds to the fun despite lacking a proper stage, are worth checking out. They also have a great atmosphere where a friendly bartender magically transforms the space into a lively, jovial haunt that keeps customers coming back for more.
3 Brasseurs La Capitale (3 Brasseurs – La Capitale)
$$ | (418) 204-2086 | WEBSITE

All three locations of 3 Brasseurs in Québec City offer their own festive atmosphere and group-friendly service. They’re a little on the louder side, and have a very convivial, welcoming vibe. But, aside from their atmosphere, what sets 3 Brasseurs apart from the other places on this list is a solid beer selection. They have various craft brews on tap, all at reasonable prices, as well as some seasonal and specialty options.
And if you’re a comfort-food lover, then you can try their mushroom poutine: a hearty dish packed with savory gravy, cheese curds, and sautéed mushrooms that requires an empty stomach before consumption. If you finish the entire portion, you’ll feel satisfied with the tasty food and pleasant decor, though you might find the prices a bit high for what you get.
La Planque
$$$$ | (418) 914-8780 | WEBSITE

Québec City has a great high-end spot to treat yourself before or after exploring the historic district. Whether or not your plans involve a special occasion, La Planque’s Chef’s Choice is worth the visit. Its dishes have a complexity of flavors that makes you want to savor every bite, and the presentation is beautifully artistic. If you do have reservations elsewhere, La Planque won’t make you wait—the service is attentive enough that courses arrive with thoughtful pacing.
But the dining room atmosphere is sophisticated enough that you’ll probably see couples celebrating anniversaries sharing the blind menu with a bottle of wine from their well-curated selection.
Nouvo Cuisine & Mixologie
$$ | (418) 649-1919 | WEBSITE

Like a hidden gem, this sophisticated and lovely restaurant is tucked inside the Best Western Hotel. But instead of generic hotel fare and predictable cocktails, you’ll find a pleasant atmosphere and some of the city’s most exceptional (and sublime) culinary creations. Their signature cocobungo cocktail is packed with complex flavors, a wonderful balance, and an incredibly smooth finish. Start with the already impressive sausages, then gradually work your way through the octopus and Vacherin.
Not only will this delight your palate, but it’ll also give your dining experience a euphoria-inducing quality like you just discovered a secret culinary treasure. Nouvo’s fine dining appeal might mean that you’ll have to accept service that prioritizes care over speed. But it’s absolutely worth it, and you can just enjoy their beautiful setting and top-notch wine while you patiently savor each course away from tourist traps.
