8 Best Wine Bars Restaurants in Bethesda, MD [2026 Updated]

For Bethesda’s discerning sippers, a great wine bar isn’t just about the pour—it’s about the place. It’s the hum of conversation over a shared bottle, the clink of glasses in a room that feels like home. This is where community gathers, one exquisite glass at a time. Here are the eight spots where the atmosphere is as perfectly curated as the wine list.

Little Blackbird

When I tell you, the first time I went, I was like, ‘OK, this is a bit overwhelming.’ They bring you your dishes with all these elegant presentations, like little works of art on the plate. They may serve your scallops on a swoosh of white chocolate purée. It’s very, very refined. But the food? Oh my goodness, the food is so good. The service is so good. Chef Moore loves to engage with every table. He’s like, ‘Oh, you have to try the beetroot gnocchi.’ He’s very attentive.

He remembers regulars’ preferences. When I’m in the mood for a special night out, I go there. I love the duck pâté as my starter, and I get the branzino or the seared scallops with the five-course tasting menu as my main experience.

Vin Sur Vingt Wine Bar - DC

I’m on my wine and relaxation kick, which is an everyday necessity for some of us. I go in and out. When I’m feeling indulgent, I go to Vin Sur Vingt. They have the best build-your-own cheeseboard ever. And they also do a really, really good pate. They use this kind of fig jam and apple slices with it. So that’s definitely one of my favorite spots when I’m wanting to unwind, especially if I’m preparing for date night and I can’t afford to be stressed and tense in the shoulders.

Apéro & La Bohème

Apéro & La Bohème

A lot of my friends like to go to those big, flashy wine bars downtown. That’s a big thing around here in Bethesda. I don’t usually go to those because I believe in finding a place with character and a real vibe, because I want to enjoy my evening the way that I want to for a very long time. But I will go to Apéro & La Bohème. They have the best cheese board and brunch burger ever.

It’s also one of those places where the staff will just sit there and talk with you and make you feel very welcome for hours. The themed events, like the Miyazaki tasting menu, are also always good.

Rania

Rania

I can go there for dinner, settle into the lively atmosphere, which feels so elevated. It’s located in Bethesda, which is kind of your upscale area. It’s a Michelin-rated restaurant, honey. But I love the lamb that they have there. They have this price-fixed four-course menu with lamb that I’ll get with the naan. Oh my God. When I tell you, it is heaven. And then if I’m feeling adventurous, I’ll do the pork loin with the morels.

They have amazing creative drinks as well…because their sauces are a highlight, so that’s a little bit better than your traditional fare.

It’s my absolute favorite Chinese spot in Bethesda, from the Peking Duck to the dim sum [and] the Szechuan-style dishes, which are so spicy and balanced to perfection. And the service is always attentive and warm. When you go in there, you feel the spaciousness. You see dishes that remind you of authentic Szechuan, or remind you of artful presentation.

But you also see flavors, the brunch menu, that remind you of fresh spring rolls or sweet tangyuan, and then the variety that they offer, so you try everything. It gives you a real sense of quality and authenticity, especially with the high-quality food. It’s a really feel-good place.

Era Wine Bar

Era Wine Bar

Era Wine Bar is very special to me because it’s literally set up like a sophisticated lounge. Do you remember those cozy wine bars with the warm lighting and intimate seating? They have that kind of atmosphere inside the restaurant. They have all these displays of stylish decor along the walls. There’s a comfortable seating area that creates a welcoming environment. It feels really good, like you’re literally in your favorite spot just enjoying great conversation over a meal.

One of the best things on the menu are the shrimp crostinis. They are perfectly prepared, but they have this delicious flavor, or some type of savory but slightly zesty taste to them, mixed with the fresh quality of the actual shrimp. I mean, it is crafted to perfection. The snack boards are nice for sharing or making a fun meal, and the wine selection caters to every palate with knowledgeable staff happy to help you find the perfect glass.

Black’s Bar & Kitchen

Black

It’s a Bethesda institution. Everybody who knows good food has been to Black’s. When folks want a reliable, excellent meal, they always head to Black’s. I definitely get the tempura cauliflower. They do really good oysters. Their wood-grilled lobster roll is really good as well. I think they grill it with butter and herbs. I don’t really know their exact recipe, but that lobster roll is good. I love their shrimp tacos as well. Their grain and greens salad is really good.

I like their burrata, and I like their ahi tuna special. But you know what I really love? Honey, this is gonna sound so basic. They make a cocktail. They call it a cocktail, but honestly, it’s just a perfectly balanced gin and tonic. You have to get the gin and tonic.

I always tell my server, who’s always attentive, I always tell them, ‘You know what to do.’ And girl, I get my gin and tonic, my tempura cauliflower, shrimp tacos, grain and greens salad, burrata, and a side of ahi tuna special, and it is divine.

Mon Ami Gabi

Mon Ami Gabi

When I’m craving something elegant, and let’s say I have friends visiting from out of town, if I want truly authentic French cuisine, one of my favorite spots in Bethesda is Mon Ami Gabi. I think they have one of the best Beet & Goat Cheese Salads I’ve ever tasted. They prepare it with such care—you can tell the ingredients are fresh and thoughtfully combined.

The cozy ambiance and stylish renovations make it perfect for a special evening, and their Price Fix menu for $30 with three courses is absolutely worth it. The skilled servers provide wonderful recommendations, and even when the restaurant is busy, the service remains exceptional. It’s the kind of place where every detail, from the full bar with martinis to the gorgeous patio, adds to the experience.

If you’re looking for a dining destination that delivers on both food and atmosphere, Mon Ami Gabi is a wonderful choice.
